Just thought that I'd share this having searched for the answer for some time:

My problem was that I wanted to use multiple network interfaces on my Hardy box but for use with VMware server. I only wanted a single IP address to be used on a specific NIC and for all other NICs to simply be physical connectors to the vmnet interfaces in vmware with no ip addresses.

My interfaces showed up nicely during the vmware config and I figured that all was well. However, no traffic seemed to pass. On looking at the output of...

Wireless Signal Strength Indicator on Ubuntu Desktop

Question:

New Ubuntu user here. I'm posting this from my new Ubuntu install!

I got my wireless set up pretty easily, and it's working great, but I have no signal strength indicator on my desktop panel. From the documentation I've read I should have a wireless signal strength indicator showing in place of the "2 black monitors" network indicator in the upper-right. Well, even when I'm connected via wireless and not plugged in at all I only get the "2 monitors."

Is this normal? How can I get a wireless signal strength indicator up on my desktop?

It’s another small step for consumer Linux, and another giant win for Novell SUSE Linux. The VAR Guy was strolling through his local BJs Wholesale Club over the holiday weekend, when he spotted a Hewlett-Packard 2133 Mini-Note PC (pictured) with Novell SUSE Linux preloaded. Sweet … but not perfect. Here’s why.

First, the good news: BJs is a massive retailer that generated $2.65 billion in sales during its most recent quarter. It’s a powerful company that influences consumer spending, especially when it comes to impulse electronics purchases.

perspective Industry analysts can play a valuable role. But their shortcomings are particularly evident in their coverage of open source software. And, apart from analysts, what viable alternative information sources exist?

Despite their critics, analysts at their best can bridge a significant gap between vendors and software users. Vendor marketers who create information for prospective customers are understandably sales-driven and rarely grasp how their products are deployed.
