Install Ubuntu Studio Package on Xubuntu, Possible?

Question:

Is it possible to install whole the Ubuntu studio package (all the programs) on Xubuntu at one time?
I want to try installing Ubuntu Studio on an old pc (intel PIII 1,3 GHz, 256 MB RAM), for my younger brother who likes to work with music. But I think it will be better to install Xubuntu than Ubuntu because of the low memory and clock-rate.

Hi,

Here is the solutions that I found to be able to screencast my desktop thru a virtual webcam so I can show my destop (or part of it) in aMsn or with Flash in sites like Stickam or BlogTV.

1 - Using recordMyDesktop as the X11 grabber

What you need is recordMyDesktop and ffmpeg from the repositories of Ubuntu:

> sudo apt-get install ffmpeg recordmydesktop

Got a DVD you want to make into a file? This is how to use VLC to copy (rip) a DVD:

VLC allows data streaming i.e. if you can watch it you can record it. You may have to download additional codecs (mediubuntu) if you are new to VLC and haven't done so previously.

Steps:
1. insert DVD
2. start VLC and File/open disk

Canonical is taking three small but significant steps to build a partner channel for Ubuntu Linux. The VAR Guy stumbled upon the strategy during a surprise visit to Canonical’s offices near Boston. Here’s the scoop.

During a visit to OnForce, which operates an online marketplace for solutions providers, The VAR Guy popped his head into the neighboring offices of Canonical. While there, he picked up some marketing materials from the Ubuntu Linux promoter.

Sep 04, 2008

U.S. Linux distributor Red Hat has bought the virtual computing solutions vendor Qumranet.

Red Hat gave notice in their press conference this morning that it is taking over the virtualization applications KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine) and SolidICE from Qumranet, Inc. KVM has already been a component of the Linux kernel for two years. Via this acquisition, Red Hat predicts short development times and ensures comprehensive hardware support, thereby providing a strategic advantage over other solutions. SolidICE is a desktop virtualization system that can coexist with Linux or Windows. According to Red Hat CEO and President Jim Whitehurst in response to the acquisition, Red Hat thus becomes one of only two enterprises worldwide that offers complete virtualization solutions, emphasizing its equal rank with Microsoft as technology leader.

Google's Chrome, Mozilla, Explorer, rendering engines: let the war begin

Chrome is in fact a reference to the imminent release of Google’s entry into the browser market. Apparently, the launch was accidentally “leaked” by a Google employee who was a little piggy fingered with the send button on his e-mail client. By the time you read this it may be available for download (probably Windows only in the first instance). I was intrigued by this because there have been “reviews” of Chrome already and the reason for this is the unique way Google has chosen to announce it. If you were launching a new browser, or anything else, would you do it through the medium of a comic?
