Could not find the GNOME installation
Question:
I am a newbie. I have no idea what i did the last time i used ubuntu, but now I can not get the gui to boot. I just get a brown-ish screen that does nothing.(not the desktop, but the color that surrounds the log in screen)
if i try to boot to failsafe gnome, I get this error:
could not find the GNOME installation, will try running the "Failsafe xterm" session.
Spawning alert bubbles / tray icons from a command
Some of you might be jumping up and down screaming notify-send at this point. That's what I would usually do. This command is in the libnotify-bin package. It spawns a libnotify popup in the lower right corner of the screen, which can be configured to either self-dismiss or stay there for a specified duration. This is pretty nice, except that it is easy to click out accidentally, or be missed if you are away from the screen for more than the typical 10-20 second timeout. Furthermore, when the screen is locked, the bubble is not displayed altogether!

Program in Ubuntu to blogs
Question:
I'm looking for a lightweight program that can post blogs to a Wordpress-based blog. I've tried kblogger, but it's a little odious on the setup and isn't working for me. I really enjoy Flock's blogging function, but the browser really drags on my laptop - but I absolutely how easy it was to setup my blogs in it.
Here's what I'm looking for:
- lightweight
- can write up blogs when not online and upload (with original time stamp) later
- keeps an archive of blogs previously posted through it
