Intel CEO Paul Otellini (pictured) reportedly told the Associated Press that Linux will dominate sales of mobile Internet devices (MIDs). Meanwhile, ABI Research predicts that by 2013, Linux will outsell Windows by two to one in the combined market for MIDs, netbooks, and UMPCs.

The Associated Press interview represented another strategic and incremental shift for Intel away from its long-time partnership with Microsoft, said USA Today. According to the publication's account, the Intel CEO told the Associated Press that MID activity will be "centered around Linux."

Edit: EEEK!! Why is it to wide? Anyone else seeing it too wide? Anyone a clue how to fix it?

This howto is based on own experiences and this german wiki page, so thx to them.

It is tested for intel Core2Duo and CoreDuo cpus. I have no clue if it works for AMD as well. Some answers I received suggest that it currently doesn't work with AMD cpus however.

Ussualy effect intel HDA sound cards...Sound comes out both fronts and headphones at same time!

My Solution for Ubuntu8.04.............Basicaly you just want to add a switch to the volume controll!

Tell alsa which driver to use for your hda intel sound card. You do this by first looking at the output of
Code:
head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec*

Mine was:
Codec Realtek ALC888

SO you then issue the command:
Code:
zless /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gz

Look for the subtitle "Module snd-hda-intel".
In this subsection look for the name of codec “you” aquired from the output above...Mine was Realtek ALC888...so after locating the list for “Module snd-hda-intel” I scrolled down further to find:

Asus will bring the Eee Box desktop to the UK in August, the company announced today. However, it confirmed to Register Hardware that machine will initially only ship with Windows XP Home Edition.

The compact desktop contains not Intel's desktop-oriented Atom 230 processor, as anticipated, but the less power-hungry notebook version, the N270, Asus revealed. Both CPUs are clocked at 1.6GHz and contain 512KB of L2 cache. But the N270 consumes 2.5W of power, while the 230 has a 4.5W TDP.
