Easy Way To Sync Your iPhone & iPod touch In Ubuntu
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1393576
Like WebUpd8 reader StoneCut said in a comment on it's previous tip, he wrote yet another post for iPhone & iPod touch owners which use Linux. So here it is:
In our previous tutorial we showed how you to access the iPhone & iPod touch OS 3.x filesystem and read/write to its music database using iFuse and by compiling our own libgpod4. Then we had to create a file on the iPhone & iPod touch, manually mount the iPhone & iPod touch each time and so on. Maybe a bit complicated for an average user.
Firefogg: Transcoding videos to open web standards with Mozilla Firefox
Source: http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/columns/firefogg_transcoding_videos_...
GNU/Linux has never been short of audio and video players, but they live in a world of multiple codecs, chief culprit amongst them being MP3, AAC, WMA and (Adobe) Flash. I say “culprits” because they are not free and open codecs. They are encumbered by patents; most websites with embedded audio/video use them and most of the people who view them are also using other patented software: Windows. GNU/Linux is a good alternative and all distros come bundled with free and open multimedia alternatives too: Ogg. You would not be surprised that these players can handle Ogg but what if I told you that Mozilla’s Firefox browser could not only handle this codec but could be used also to transcode videos to that format? Interested? Read on.

Top 10 Tricks and Tips for the svn MPlayer
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1154431
=====================
Introduction
=====================
I have been writing guides for the installation of the svn MPlayer under Ubuntu Linux for sometime now but for this short guide I would like to move away from installation issues and deal with usage of this amazing program. Documented here are what I have somewhat cheaply described as 'Top 10 Tricks and Tips for the svn MPlayer', they are a collection of the 10 best tips and tricks that I have found either useful or fascinating in my dealings with the svn MPlayer. Perhaps you have your own favoured techniques? Please feel free to add these to this thread and with any luck we will all learn a little more.
Easily enable MP3, MPEG4, AAC, and other restricted encoding in FFmpeg on Ubuntu
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1119945
A common question is "why doesn't the repository FFmpeg convert to mp3, aac, mpeg4, etc?". Ubuntu doesn't make it very clear to the general user as to why to repo FFmpeg is so limited or how to fix this issue. This is reflected in the number of forum questions relating to this topic.
Why is FFmpeg from the repository so limited?
Legal reasons. Some software is limited due to geographical differences in software patents, legal restrictions on free speech, and restrictions on certain technologies. Ubuntu sidesteps these legal restrictions by not including some restricted packages by default. Users must install these packages on their own. See Restricted Formats Ubuntu Community Documentation and FFmpeg License and Legal Considerations for more details.
Speed up 720p or 1080p decoding using multithreaded mplayer in Ubuntu
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1104967
Hi all
If you are like me, you may have tried to play some 720p or 1080p high definition H264 film clips on your computer and it has stuttered or lagged behind audio, making it unwatchable.
Even very fast pcs suffer from this, for example a core 2 quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz will struggle with some 1080p material sometimes.
How to Compile Amarok 2 from SVN
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1103471
Introduction
Amarok is a pretty nifty and advance music player for the KDE desktop. However the current version in the *buntu 8.10 repos is hopelessly outdated and (IMHO) totally bugged. There's also the Amarok Neon Project, which aims at providing daily SVN builds for *buntu however lately they have not been updated. So, if you want to be up-to-date with latest Amarok development you either wait until the Neon Project provides binaries again or you compile it on your own. If you want to compile it on your own, you require KDE 4.2. There are also PPA repos for that, use my generator http://repogen.simplylinux.ch to get the according info.
Sync music to your Verizon Wireless cell phone using Amarok in Linux
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1086012
I have found that there is a dearth of information on ways to get music onto cell phones under Linux, so I'm hoping this tutorial will help many of you out there. I have tested this method and verified that it works with my LG Dare from Verizon Wireless as well as my girlfriend's LG Chocolate II (also from VZW). This method will probably work with Verizon's other BREW handsets (just about everything they sell that isn't a smartphone) because the music player software is very similar across the board but again, I've only tested using the two phones mentioned above. VZW phones are the focus of this tutorial.
